so I had a dream last week, and basically all it was, is I was 80, sat in a like a care home, and I kept saying to the nurses “jus play it again pls” and I was just sat there watching the usb show with Thomas over and over again 😂😂😂😂 and then I sat there being like ‘look that’s me! I’m there!’ I usually have a rule that I don’t watch anything back, I just do the thing, and then try to stay present and just sorta keep working on writing music, like I’ve still never watched our Glastonbury set. Or most things tbh, but yeah with this, I justtttt. Can’t. Stop. probably because a lot of it isn’t my music, so it’s not subject to my usual very critical inner voice about stuff. instead I’m just a fan more proud of a sort of human moment than anything else. now I know in a way it sounds kinda morbid in some ways buttt lemme tell you, one thing was very clear when I woke up. it was not a nightmare, it was definitely a dream. Having been collecting since the '90s, when the CD boom made vinyl records temporarily a dead and more accessible affordablew format, he began to archive vinyl records as part of his own collection, playing out his finds at parties and radio shows. With a special interest in showcasing music from Mexico and its connections to other parts of the world, digging for records has taken him throughout Latin America, Europe, and even Asian. José José's big break came on March 25, 1970, when he represented Mexico in an international song festival, the "II Festival de la Canción Latina" (Latin Song Festival II, predecessor of the OTI Festival) with an amazing performance of the song "El Triste". The performance of the song was so impressive that caused tears, standing ovations, expressions of amazement and cheers from Angélica María, Alberto Vázquez, Marco Antonio Muñiz, the judges and the spectators in the Teatro Ferrocarrilero in Mexico City. The fact that José José got the third place shocked the audience. After the hit of "El Triste", his popular romantic ballad style mixed with a unique voice made him the star of stars in Mexico.

Though it was an unseasonably warm September week when we filmed Hamilton, Ontario native Jessy Lanza at Pop Montreal, her icy brand of R&B feels most appropriate with a winter bite in the air. Something about the eerie concrete basement of Montreal's old fine arts school reminded Jessy of the 1983 cult classic Videodrome. Stark and dimly lit with a few fluorescent lights, it was the perfect setting for her crushing ballad, "Strange Emotion," which chronicles the isolation of life in her hometown. While the floors above bustled with the festival's showcases and symposiums, Jessy's wistful vocals reverberated throughout the dank, forgotten space. Bobby Carter | March 3, 2026 The humor of De La Soul has always been one of its calling cards. When DJ Maseo tells the Tiny Desk crowd, "Ladies and gentlemen, we're a new group called De La Soul," he means it as a joke. But, in so many ways, one of the most influential groups in hip-hop is new: the duties have been reassessed, the focus has shifted and the newness of The Plugs is laid plain here at the Tiny Desk. De La Soul came to us to celebrate a few milestones: its latest album, Cabin in the Sky, and year three of the De La catalog back under the members' control. This Tiny Desk releases on March 3, which is known as De La Soul Day. It's all a bit bittersweet as David Jolicoeur (aka Trugoy the Dove, aka Plug Two) isn't here with Pos and Maseo. Dave passed away in 2023, just weeks before the group's music was finally made available on streaming platforms after a decades-long legal battle. Throughout the planning process for this show, both remaining members were candid about what Dave would and wouldn't approve of creatively, but remained open to ideas to honor him. The result was a thoughtful balance of classics like "Stakes is High" and "Breakadawn" with highlights from Cabin in the Sky. E a última vez que eu apresentei esse repertório ao público, naquela ocasião não havia público nenhum, por algo que nos acometeu, a pandemia de 2020. E nesse ano eu fiz uma live cantando esse repertório, interpretando Pelé dos Santos, num lugar muito, muito bonito, no litoral aqui de São Paulo. Esse ano eu pretendo trazer uma edição do que foi essa live, em homenagem à partida de David Bowie, mas também ao eterno legado musical que ele deixou nessas obras e ao quanto essas obras fazem presença na vida das pessoas. Espero que vocês gostem desse material, completamente dedicado a ele e, por que não dizer também, ao Wes Anderson, que teve toda essa ideia. ⸻ English This year marks 10 years since David Bowie’s passing. And 10 years ago I started a season that traveled around the world, singing versions in Portuguese. I was tasked with the mission of creating these versions for the film The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. And that’s how my relationship with this artist began, whom I already admired not only as a singer, a composer, an instrumentalist, but also as the great actor he was. And the last time I performed this repertoire for the public, there was no audience at all, because of what befell us, the 2020 pandemic. And this year I did a live stream singing this repertoire, interpreting Pelé dos Santos, in a very, very beautiful place, on the coast here in São Paulo. This year I intend to bring an edited version of what that live stream was, in tribute to the passing of David Bowie, but also to the eternal musical legacy he left through these works and how much these works are present in people’s lives.
